The NGO Regulatory Authority (NGORA) wishes to remind NGOs that the deadline for the submission of annual reports for their financial year ended 2022 remains 30th June 2023. Section 22 of the NGO Act requires all registered NGOs to submit audited financial statements, annual reports outlining activities undertaken in that year, and annual returns summarizing the NGOs administrative information.

To promote proportionate approach and enable compliance of all NGOs to the said Section 22, NGORA has prescribed a financial reporting format for NGOs whose income is below MK100 million and are unable to conduct external audit within the specified deadline. The prescribed form is available on NGORAs website https://www.ngora.mw/download/prescribed-report/ or can be shared on request through email to registrar@ngora.mw. The NGOs shall be expected to submit their audited financial statements by December, 2023.

NGORA is further informing all NGOs that non-compliance for a period of three consecutive years will result in automatic deregistration by the myNGO system. Such NGOs will therefore not be allowed to operate and those operating shall contravene section 23(1)(b) of the NGO Act and will be taken to court. NGORA will in November, 2023 publicize a list of NGOs that will fail to comply, issue them with warning letters, and impose a fine.

NGOs that did not have sufficient funding in 2022 are advised to inform the Authority in writing of the status. In exercise of section 6 (2) of the Fees Regulations, the Authority shall suspend the obligation of such NGOs to file reports.
